The BBS Motorsport RT88 has a distinctive silhouette, but the details determine how it sits visually on a car. The colour of the forged centre and the finish of the forged LM rim are separate choices. Before selecting either, it is worth looking at the vehicle, its paint colour and the exact BBS wheel application.

BKBD photographed from the front: the barrel is black, the front lip remains bright and diamond-cut, and the silver-coloured centre shown is one of the separately selectable centre finishes.

One wheel, two finish decisions

The RT88 combines a forged aluminium centre derived from the E88 with a forged BBS Japan LM rim. The centre determines the colour of the spokes; the LM rim changes the appearance of the wheel's barrel and outer edge. A light centre against a dark barrel can appear completely different from the same centre against a bright silver rim.

The centre colour: where to start

White Gold and Midnight Gold: two quieter ways to use gold

White Gold is a pale, warm finish rather than a conventional bright yellow-gold. It brings the spoke design forward without giving the wheel a strong colour accent. We particularly like the restraint it brings to dark grey, black and blue paintwork. Midnight Gold takes the opposite approach: a deeper, more subdued shade that retains the warmth of gold but gives the spokes less visual prominence.

White Gold – a lighter finish that still shows the spoke profile clearly.

Motorsport Gold: the recognisable BBS look

For a deliberately classic motorsport specification, Motorsport Gold is the straightforward choice. Its warmer, more pronounced colour works with the RT88's exposed construction and polished detailing, especially when the vehicle has otherwise restrained exterior styling.

Silver: let the construction do the talking

Silver is the option we would start with when the objective is a clean, technical finish. It highlights the shape of the spokes and leaves the rim, rather than the centre colour, to provide most of the contrast. It suits both older Porsche GT models and modern BMW M cars without forcing a particular colour scheme.

Satin Black and Gloss Black: a different emphasis

Black centres shift attention towards the lip and the hardware. Satin Black is visually softer, while Gloss Black reflects more light and gives the centre a sharper appearance. Both are listed in Clubsport Garage's RT88 centre-colour options, although photographs of every possible combination are not yet available.

Midnight Gold offers a useful middle ground for someone considering black but wanting a hint of warmth. It is worth comparing sample imagery rather than judging any metallic finish from a screen alone.

SLD or BKBD: choosing the LM rim

The RT88 centre colour and the forged LM rim finish are two separate decisions. The six centre colours listed above can be selected independently of the rim finish, subject to the options offered for the specific vehicle application. Choosing BKBD does not mean choosing a black centre.

SLD – Silver Diamond

SLD has a silver-coated inner barrel and a polished, clear-coated front outer lip. The silver barrel and bright outer lip give this specification a lighter, more traditional appearance.

BKBD – Black Bright Diamond Cutting

BKBD has a black-coated inner barrel, paired with a bright, diamond-cut and clear-coated front outer lip. The front lip is not painted black: the black finish is on the deeper barrel behind the wheel centre. The centre can be specified in your chosen colour from the available options.

Neither rim finish represents a performance upgrade over the other. Always check the exact BBS RT88 application: some wheel sets are offered with both SLD and BKBD, while others use one specified rim finish only.

Check the application before deciding on the finish

The wheel's dimensions, offset and connection come first. Some applications in our current RT88 range have a prescribed rim finish rather than a choice between both. For example, our 981/718 Cayman GT4 set is listed with SLD, while the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and 992 GT3 RS sets are listed with BKBD. BMW G87/G80/G82, Porsche 991 GT3 and Porsche 992 GT3 listings offer both rim specifications.

Always select the exact vehicle application and consider brake configuration and tyre clearance before ordering. RT88 wheels are built to order; we can confirm the appropriate BBS specification and current lead time.
