BMW M Motorsport has announced the development of an exciting new G87 entry-level racing model, set to debut for the 2026 racing season. This vehicle will serve as the successor to the BMW M2 CS Racing, which has been a popular choice among grassroots teams and new racing talents. The new model is expected to feature cutting-edge BMW M Motorsport technology while remaining accessible to a broad range of racing enthusiasts.

A New Era for Grassroots Racing

The upcoming model continues BMW's tradition of providing affordable, high-performance cars designed specifically for customer racing. Previous models, such as the BMW M235i Racing and the BMW M240i Racing, have been instrumental in cultivating new talent and providing teams with a reliable, competitive platform. The new car is expected to build on this legacy, offering enhanced performance and reliability, making it an attractive option for those looking to enter the world of motorsport.

Closer Look

Whilst the official BMW Press Release and a considerable use of camouflage wrap is keeping things a little 'open to interpretation', upon closer inspection, we can see a number of interesting elements to the car.

Aerocatch fasteners can be seen securing both the bonnet and boot, a feature commonly seen on race cars for easy access. At the rear, we can just about see a rear air jack plug neatly tucked in between the aerocatch fasteners, a nod to the F87 M2 CS Racing model (below).

A full roll cage can be seen inside for safety, and looking at the lack of a-pillar trims or roof lining suggests a full interior strip down to offer a considerable weight saving too.

The 'E' extinguisher sticker on the bonnet points towards a fire suppression system, with electric cut off switch. Tow straps and bespoke wheels, wrapped in Goodyear slick tyres complete the racing complements.

We imagine the whole catalogue of BMW Motorsport Parts will become available to purchase in due course, which will be added to our already extensive range of BMW Motorsport Parts here at Clubsport Garage.

Advanced Motorsport Technology

BMW M Motorsport is known for integrating advanced technologies from their high-performance vehicles into their customer racing models. While specific details of the new model's specifications have not been disclosed, it is anticipated that the car will feature the latest innovations in aerodynamics, chassis design, and engine performance. This will ensure that it not only competes effectively on the track but also provides an excellent learning platform for drivers and teams.

A Commitment to Accessibility

One of the key goals of this new model is to maintain accessibility for aspiring racers. BMW M Motorsport aims to keep costs manageable, allowing more teams to participate in racing without compromising on the quality or performance of the vehicle. This commitment to affordability, combined with BMW's reputation for engineering excellence, is likely to make the new model a popular choice in the entry-level racing segment.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As the 2026 season approaches, excitement is building around the potential of BMW M Motorsport’s new entry-level racing model. It represents not only the future of BMW's customer racing program but also a continued dedication to supporting and developing new racing talent. More information, including detailed specifications and pricing, is expected to be released as the development process continues.
