Product Description

AST 5100 coilovers for the listed BMW G20/G21 M340i, G22 M440i and G42 M240i applications combine adjustable ride height with single-adjustable rebound damping. Street, Street Performance and Club Racing configurations offer different mounting equipment and rear suspension layouts. Rear-wheel-drive and xDrive versions use distinct part numbers, and not every configuration is offered for both drivetrains.

AST coilover technical overview

Damper design & adjustment: The rebuildable high-pressure monotube dampers are supplied with springs. Rebound adjustment changes the resistance during damper extension, while spring-platform adjustment establishes ride height. These controls do not change the spring rate. The Street range includes a non-inverted rear-wheel-drive version as well as inverted versions; this is a genuine construction difference and remains identified in the options.

Configuration differences

Street retains the original top mounts and the separate rear spring and damper arrangement.

Street Performance uses inverted front struts and adds camber-adjustable front top mounts, retaining the original rear mounts and separate rear springs. It therefore provides an additional alignment adjustment without changing to a true rear coilover layout.

Club Racing uses inverted front struts, camber-adjustable front top mounts and solid rear top mounts. Its rear springs sit on the rear dampers in a true coilover arrangement, unlike the separate spring and damper layout of the Street versions.

Installation & setup: Select the correct drivetrain and check the compatibility information for the specific chassis. For factory Electronic Damper Control applications, Clubsport Garage recommends coding out EDC when fitting non-electronic coilovers, where supported. A compatible KW EDC cancellation kit is a separately available hardware alternative. Final installation should include ride-height and alignment setup and checks for wheel, tyre and suspension clearance.

FAQs

Does changing the damper setting change the spring rate or ride height?

No. Rebound adjustment changes damping resistance. Ride height is set through the spring platforms, and the spring rate remains a property of the installed spring.

Can the dampers be serviced?

Yes. The AST 5100 uses rebuildable dampers. Servicing should follow AST's requirements for the particular application and use.

Does the car need an alignment after fitting?

The alignment should be checked and set at the chosen ride height. Wheel and tyre clearance also needs checking with the car's actual wheel specification.

Dispatch Times

Import Duties & International Orders

Damaged Shipments

If your parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery or note the damage with the courier. If damage is discovered after opening, contact us immediately with photos. Do not install damaged items, as installation voids courier claims and return eligibility.

Returns

Returns must be authorised before sending anything back. Returns must be requested within 14 days of delivery and returned within 14 days of approval, in unused/uninstalled condition and in original packaging. Some items, including special-order, built-to-order, used, installed, or modified parts, are non-returnable.

Fitment & Installation

Many products are aftermarket components and may require professional installation or minor adjustment. Perfect OEM-level fitment cannot be guaranteed. Professional installation by an experienced workshop is strongly recommended. Installed or used items cannot be returned.
